The state of the economy and other matters will be a subject of discussion when the 36 governors meet today at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Governors’ Forum (NGF) said the meeting between the governors and the President, the first since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, has become necessary because of the worsening economic downturn.

Director General of the NGF, Okauru Ashishana, said: “Several governors reasoned that it is high time they told each other the bare truth by confronting each other on the situation and brainstorming on it. This formed the basis for resorting to an in-person meeting, which, since the outbreak of the pandemic, has been relegated by the states’ executives.”

Ashishana added: “This will be the first time in the year that governors have collectively advised the President on weeding of 50-year-olds from the Federal Civil Service and other spurious suggestions meant to impose further hardship on the people.”

The meeting, which will commence at 2:00 p.m., begins with the launch of the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge Fund, followed by the launch of the World Bank SFTAS charter.
