The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has blamed “illegal” private parks in the Marina axis of Lagos for destroying government properties used in the control of illicit parking activities.

LASPA General Manager, Adebisi Adelabu, expressed dismay at the actions of these operators stating that they were operating illegally. Adelabu said their actions would negatively affect Lagosians, who park vehicles within the premises.

The General Manager, who was represented by the Director of Operations, Ayokunle Akinrimisi, explained that the Authority which is saddled with the responsibility of regulating and managing all forms of parking had issued several warnings to these car park owners to register with the Authority.

The aim is also to ensure that the business environment is operating legally, well-structured, and meeting the car park business requirements for the benefit opf the populace.

Adelabu expressed that these illegal private car park owners took laws into their hands by destroying the State Government’s clamps, noting that the government would not condone such acts and perpetrators would face the music.

While speaking, the General Manager reiterated that the authority is poised towards promoting parking policies that are tailored to suit the peculiarity of the State, in line with modern international standards towards achieving a smart city.

Adelabu said: “LASPA is empowered to remove all impediments arising from indiscriminate parking on roads, car parks, improving the flow of traffic and reducing travel time”

The General Manager called on Lagosians not to patronize illegal car park operators and support the Authority’s agenda of improving the parking culture in the State.

She emphasized that anyone interested in the car park business should register with the Lagos State Parking Authority and get a parking permit to operate.
