Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court, Makurdi, Benue State on Friday, November 22, 2019, sentenced one Iorlumun Reuben to six months imprisonment with N50,000 (Fifty Thousand Naira) option of fine.

The convict was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Makurdi Zonal Office on amended one-count charge of possession of counterfeit currency.

The charge reads: “That you Iorlumun Reuben on the 29th July, 2019 in Makurdi, within the justification of this honourable court had in your possession, counterfeit bank note, knowing it to be counterfeit and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 5(1)(b) of the Counterfeit Currency (Special Provision) Act, and punishable under Section 5(1) of the same Act.”

He pleaded guilty to the charge based on a plea bargain agreement, following which prosecution counsel, G. G. Chia-Yakua, urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.
