In a market where insurers have traditionally sold protection by emphasising the risks and uncertainties of life, SanlamAllianz Nigeria has launched a new campaign seeking to change the narrative by positioning insurance as a tool for protecting the achievements Nigerians have worked hard to attain.

The insurer, through SanlamAllianz Life Insurance Nigeria and its subsidiary, SanlamAllianz General Insurance Nigeria, unveiled its ‘Proud Moments 2.0’ campaign, built around the theme, “You’ve Earned It. Celebrate It,” as part of efforts to deepen customer engagement and promote a more positive perception of insurance.

The campaign, which is expected to run for more than eight weeks across digital and traditional media platforms, seeks to celebrate personal milestones ranging from starting a business and purchasing a first home or vehicle to educational achievements, building families and overcoming personal challenges.

The initiative also recognises the role played by parents, grandparents, teachers, mentors, friends and other support networks in helping Nigerians achieve their aspirations.

Speaking on the campaign, Group Head, Strategy, Marketing and Customer Relations, SanlamAllianz Nigeria, Chris Ekwonwa, said the initiative was designed to reposition insurance from being viewed primarily as a response to misfortune to a financial instrument that gives individuals confidence to pursue and protect their aspirations.

“At SanlamAllianz Nigeria, we strongly believe that insurance should not be viewed merely as a response to what could go wrong, but as an empowering enabler that recognises, celebrates and provides people with the confidence, financial security and peace to enjoy what they have worked hard to achieve and continue towards life’s next chapters,” he said.

According to him, the campaign reflects the company’s broader effort to connect insurance with the everyday experiences and aspirations of Nigerians.

“This is why we are launching our Proud Moments 2.0 campaign, to remind the market that we are not just in the business of providing insurance solutions; but also recognise that every achievement, big or little, is a proud moment worth celebrating,” Ekwonwa added.

The development comes at a critical period for the Nigerian insurance industry, which is seeking to rebuild consumer confidence, widen insurance penetration and demonstrate greater relevance to households and businesses following the recently concluded recapitalisation exercise.

Industry observers have increasingly argued that stronger capitalisation must be accompanied by improved customer experience, product innovation and more effective distribution if the sector is to convert its financial strength into wider market participation.

For insurers, this means moving beyond corporate and compulsory insurance lines to develop stronger relationships with individuals, small businesses and younger consumers who remain largely outside the formal insurance system.

SanlamAllianz’s campaign is therefore coming against the backdrop of a broader industry push to make insurance more accessible and relevant to consumers, particularly through digital channels, financial education and customer-focused products.

Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager, SanlamAllianz Nigeria, Bankole Banjo, said the campaign would provide Nigerians with an opportunity to share authentic stories of achievements and positive life-changing experiences.

He said the company would select the most resonant story from nominations shared on social media, with the individual at the centre of the selected story winning an all-expense-paid trip to watch the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal.

“We want authentic Nigerian stories, published on socials, and with a life-changing outcome. We will select the most resonant and the main character of that story will enjoy an all-expense-paid trip to watch the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar courtesy of SanlamAllianz Nigeria,” Banjo said.

The campaign will also feature a national radio component and product advertising across selected digital platforms.

Beyond its marketing value, the initiative reflects the changing competitive dynamics in the insurance industry, where operators are increasingly seeking to differentiate themselves through customer experience, digital engagement and stronger brand relationships.

The completion of the recapitalisation exercise has also raised expectations that insurers will deploy their stronger financial positions towards expanding distribution, investing in technology, developing innovative products and improving claims and service delivery.

SanlamAllianz Life Insurance Nigeria and SanlamAllianz General Insurance Nigeria were among the insurers confirmed by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) to have met the new minimum capital requirements under the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025.

The successful recapitalisation of the companies provides the financial platform for the group to pursue its expansion strategy, but industry stakeholders say the ultimate test will be whether stronger balance sheets translate into tangible benefits for policyholders.

Nigeria’s insurance penetration remains low compared with the size of the economy and population, with the sector facing a longstanding challenge of limited public awareness, weak distribution and low trust among potential customers.

Consequently, efforts to change the way insurance is communicated to the public have become increasingly important to the industry’s growth strategy.

The emphasis on celebrating achievements rather than focusing exclusively on risks could help broaden the emotional connection between insurance companies and consumers, particularly among younger Nigerians who increasingly engage with brands through digital platforms.

SanlamAllianz Nigeria was formed following the merger of Sanlam and Allianz’s insurance operations, with the Nigerian operations comprising SanlamAllianz Life Insurance Nigeria and SanlamAllianz General Insurance Nigeria.

The group began operations under the SanlamAllianz brand in Nigeria in June 2025 and has expanded its presence to more than 30 states.

The company said the *Proud Moments 2.0* campaign is part of its continuing commitment to insurance education, customer appreciation and widening the reach of insurance solutions across different segments of the Nigerian market.

For an industry emerging from one of its most significant regulatory reforms in recent years, the campaign also underscores a broader challenge facing insurers: converting financial strength into public confidence and making insurance part of the story of how Nigerians build, preserve and celebrate their economic progress.
