… As Ode Aye, other communities’ fault process
BY Adeboye Idowu Adenuga
The global aspiration of every society or nation either developing or undeveloped as far as the present world is concerned today is to inspire approved and acceptable standards of global height political height, economic, or technological. Narrows down a bit, every individual worldwide; male or female with a better standard of development to or self up to the family terrain. Nevertheless, what am I Trying to opine, the proposed creation of a local government development area (LCDA) by the executive governor of Ondo State [Rotimi Akeredolu] has witnessed a lot of controversies from different quarters in the state. Criticism and counter-criticism have so far greeted the plan. Last week, people democratic party (PDP) chieftain in Ondo State, Pastor Olumide Akinriola pleaded with the state Governor Rotimi
Akeredolu does not create a constitutional crisis in the state by creating the proposed LCDA in the state. However, some sections are also alleging what they call a lopsided spread of the council areas while some groups under the aegis of Sons and Daughters of Akure Kingdom resolved their decision to reject the lopsided spread of the newly proposed state especially the decision to create only three councils from the current Akure South local government area and only one LCDAs from the current Akure north local government area in the state. Meanwhile, some condemned the proposal in the state somewhere in support of the governor’s decisions and applauded the initiative which they said is capable of bringing development to the state. This, and nothing more than this. But whichever way the Ondo people (citizens) may prefer, the question is, is there anything wrong with the executive governor of a state initiating a policy capable of bringing out
the right development to the entire state? In Nigeria today, we all understand the major problems militating against the development of this country: corruption, leadership, ethnic sentiment, and tribalism. Ondo State was created along with some other states both from the North and South East
in 1976; Benue, Borno, Bauchi, Imo, and Anambra State were among the states created along with Ondo State in the same year. But today, the number of local governments in Borno and Bauchi states outnumber the local government in Ondo State. Similarly, Lagos State is generally understood to be the commercial and economic nerve of Nigeria with a highly thick population, let’s take a brief look at Kano State from the North, the political insinuation from that part of the county is such that Kano State population outnumbered Lagos population. , Kano was created with 44 local govt while Lagos State with its high population density maintained only 20 local governments
before Asiwaju Bola Tinubu then executive governor of Lagos State forcefully created an additional 37 LCDAs from the state which make up the state 57 local governments to level up with others on the top roll. Inspired, the people of Ondo State must understand that it is high time patriotism and loyalty should be the stronghold of entire people in the state because the governor’s proposal to create more local government would not only bring rapid development to the state but also allow state level up the local government councils figures in another state, especially in the Northern part of the country who always feel supreme over another state in the country. Nevertheless, the section of the people or group calling for the dissolution of the proposal is merely doing that for their selfish end. All the aggrieved people of the state either Ondo Central, Ondo North, or South should restrain from their unpatriotic ambitions and allow the state government under Rotimi Akeredolu to carry out his excellent
plan for the state development.
The disparity in the proposed creation of the council as they alleged should not be allowed to frustrate the effort of the government; moreover, it is a matter that should be handled and settled by the political leaders of the state and the traditional rulers through an amicable manner.
