Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc has reinforced its commitment to community safety with a fire prevention and sensitisation campaign for traders at Saka Tinubu Market in Victoria Island, as part of activities marking this year’s Valentine’s season.
The initiative, themed “Protecting What You Love,” was organised in partnership with the Federal Fire Service to equip traders and market stakeholders with practical knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond effectively to fire emergencies.
The exercise, held on February 13, 2026, attracted market executives, shop owners, and customers in the busy commercial hub, underscoring the importance of safety preparedness in densely populated trading environments.
Officials of the Federal Fire Service conducted hands-on demonstrations on the proper use of fire extinguishers, emergency evacuation procedures, and basic fire prevention measures. The training was designed to enhance the capacity of traders to contain minor fire incidents before escalation, thereby safeguarding lives, goods, and business assets.
Speaking during the programme, the Head of Marketing and Business Development at Sovereign Trust Insurance, Olajumoke Olatubosun, said the initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to protecting not only its customers’ assets but also their wellbeing.
“At Sovereign Trust Insurance, our responsibility goes beyond providing financial protection. We are deeply concerned about the safety of our customers and the communities we serve. This Valentine’s season, we chose to demonstrate care by empowering traders with practical knowledge that can help them respond effectively to fire emergencies,” she said.
She noted that safety education remains a critical component of risk management and aligns with the company’s goal of promoting a culture of prevention alongside insurance protection.
The Federal Fire Service commended the insurer for its proactive approach, noting that collaboration between public institutions and private organisations is essential to strengthening emergency preparedness and reducing fire-related risks in commercial centres.
