AS Nigeria intensifies efforts to bridge its digital skills gap and build a globally competitive technology workforce, Aptech Nigeria has announced plans to hold its National Convocation 2026, aimed at celebrating the achievements of its graduates while strengthening industry-academia collaboration and alumni engagement.
The convocation, scheduled for August 8, 2026, at the Sheraton Lagos, will bring together graduates, alumni, industry leaders, education partners, employers and other stakeholders under the theme, “One Milestone. Many Futures.”
The event comes at a time when demand for technology, software development, cybersecurity, multimedia and digital creative skills continues to rise across Nigeria’s financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, manufacturing and public sectors, driven by rapid digital transformation and increasing adoption of emerging technologies.
Aptech Nigeria said the convocation is designed to recognise the academic and professional journey of its learners, from classroom training and practical projects to certification and transition into the workplace.
According to the organisation, the event will provide graduates with an opportunity to receive formal recognition, reconnect with classmates and faculty members, expand their professional networks and become part of its growing alumni community.
Activities lined up for the event include a formal convocation ceremony, stage recognition, networking sessions, industry engagement, presentation of graduation kits, alumni induction and a scholarship draw that will offer eligible participants a 50 per cent international scholarship.
Speaking on the initiative, the Head of International Business at Aptech, Kallol Mukherjee, said the convocation reflects the institution’s commitment to producing industry-ready professionals capable of contributing to Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
According to him, graduation should not merely signify the completion of an academic programme but also mark the beginning of lifelong professional development.
“Convocation is not only about receiving recognition. It is about celebrating achievement, building professional confidence, creating lifelong memories and becoming part of a strong alumni network. The convocation celebration reflects our broader commitment to developing future-ready professionals who can contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s evolving technology, digital and creative sectors,” he said.
Mukherjee noted that the event would also strengthen relationships between graduates, employers, education partners and industry stakeholders by creating platforms for mentorship, career development and professional collaboration.
He added that through its alumni network and international education pathways, Aptech aims to sustain engagement with graduates long after they complete their programmes.
The institution said the convocation is open to eligible graduates from the 2022 academic session onward, subject to registration and participation requirements, adding that Aptech centres across the country are already mobilising alumni to participate in the event.
As part of activities marking the convocation, the first 100 confirmed registrants will receive complimentary guest passes to enable family members and friends to attend the ceremony.
Industry stakeholders said initiatives that promote stronger links between education providers and employers are becoming increasingly important as Nigeria seeks to build a workforce capable of supporting its digital economy ambitions.
According to them, while investments in digital infrastructure remain critical, the country’s ability to compete in the global knowledge economy will depend largely on the availability of skilled professionals in software engineering, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, data analytics and creative technologies.
They noted that institutions offering industry-focused and career-oriented education have become critical partners in addressing youth unemployment and closing the technology skills gap by equipping graduates with practical competencies that align with employers’ evolving needs.
The stakeholders added that strengthening alumni networks and industry engagement would further improve employability, encourage entrepreneurship and support Nigeria’s ambition to become a leading digital innovation hub in Africa.
