The Corporate Affairs Managers Committee of the Nigerian Insurers Association (CAMCONIA) has urged members of the Nigerian Association of Insurance and Pension Editors (NAIPE) to uphold professionalism, mutual respect and balanced reporting in their engagement with industry stakeholders, warning that direct access to corporate leaders should not undermine established communication channels and institutional relationships.

The committee’s chairman, Bankole Banjo, made the call in a goodwill message at NAIPE’s 11th National Conference in Lagos, where he reaffirmed CAMCONIA’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with journalists covering the insurance and pension sectors.

Banjo acknowledged the role of NAIPE in promoting public understanding of insurance and pensions, noting that factual and developmental reporting remained important to building public confidence, improving insurance penetration and strengthening pension awareness.

He, however, reminded editors that access to decision-makers comes with a responsibility to recognise the roles of corporate affairs officers and other officials involved in institutional decision-making. He urged journalists not to take established relationships for granted, but to sustain them through professionalism and mutual respect.

According to him, effective engagement between journalists and industry communicators requires open communication, recognition of institutional processes and a shared commitment to responsible reporting.

Banjo congratulated NAIPE on the successful hosting of the conference and commended its choice of theme, “Post-Recapitalisation and Market Dynamics in Insurance and Pension Sectors.”

He said the completion of insurance industry recapitalisation should shift attention towards how stronger capital bases could improve market capacity, encourage product innovation, strengthen consumer protection and support operational resilience and sustainable growth.

For the pension industry, he added, the evolving market environment also presents an opportunity for informed discussions on investment, service delivery and the long-term sustainability of retirement savings.

The CAMCONIA chairman expressed confidence that the conference would help shape public discourse on the future of both sectors and reinforce their contributions to Nigeria’s financial system.

He reaffirmed the committee’s readiness to deepen engagement with NAIPE through collaboration, mutual respect and professional conduct, noting that both organisations have complementary roles in improving public understanding of insurance and pensions.

The renewed commitment comes as the insurance industry seeks to translate recapitalisation into improved capacity, stronger consumer confidence and broader market participation, while pension stakeholders continue to address issues affecting retirement security and public participation in the contributory pension system.
