In light of the recent developments regarding the local political landscape, we express our concern over the conduct of Mr. Rabiu Adeniran Kassim, Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) of Egbe-Idimu LCDA. His recent claims regarding the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee results have raised eyebrows and prompted us to address this situation delicately but urgently.

It is disheartening to witness an individual in such a noteworthy position make statements that undermine the integrity of the political process. Mr. Kassim, while achieving a score of 80% in the state APC screening committee, has mistakenly declared this as an indication of winning the party’s primary elections. It is crucial to clarify that these screening results do not determine the party ticket. The actual selection of candidates occurs during the party primary elections, scheduled for May 10, 2025, and it is essential that we respect the democratic process.

Among the four aspirants from Egbe-Idimu LCDA, all demonstrated commendable academic qualifications, scoring within the ‘A’ (Distinction) and ‘B’ (Very Good) categories. This highlights the pool of capable candidates ready to serve our community, including Mr. Kassim, Hon. Idris Balogun, Hon. Rotn. Chief Comr. Omotayo Ademola Ayinde, and Mr. Olufemi Muhammed Alli.

However, it raises a pertinent question: Why the jubilation and claims of victory from Mr. Kassim? While it is commendable to celebrate individual accomplishments, it is equally important to recognize that true leadership is not merely reflected in academic scores but in practical political acumen and the ability to represent the constituents effectively.

Leadership decisions are ultimately determined by party supremacy, especially at the grassroots level. The choice of Hon. Omotayo Ayinde as a leading aspirant, which I proudly supported by stepping down in his favor, was not merely a preference but a decision guided by the progressive structures within our political party.

As we await the outcome of the upcoming primary elections, we encourage our community members and party faithful to remain calm and grounded in the process. Rushing to conclusions or making premature announcements can lead to misunderstandings and discord within the party and amongst the electorate.

Let us remember: “He who laughs last, laughs best.” It is our collective responsibility to uphold the values of transparency and integrity while nurturing a political environment that allows every voice to be heard. The end shall surely justify the means.
