Mr Tayo Akinwande was last Saturday inducted as a Senior fellow of both the International Professional Managers Association (IPMA – UK) and the International Expert Consultants
(IEC – UK) . Shortly after the event which was held at the Airport Hotel Ikeja – Lagos , he had a chat with National Monitor Media. Rotimi Olawale brings the excerpts:
Q : Can we meet you sir?
I am Tayo Akinwande, the Admin/ Human Resources Manager, WASCO OIL SERVICES CO. ( NIG) LTD, Onne, Rivers State. By the grace of God I am also the Pastor in charge of the Redeemed Christian Church of God ( RCCG) , Royal Assembly Area, Rivers Province 10, Port – Harcourt.
I am a certified Senior Member of both the International Professional Managers Association ( IPMA-UK) and the International Expert Consultants ( IEC – UK) .
I am married to Ifeoma Tayo – Akinwande and our union is blessed with four beautiful children.
Q : You were in Lagos on Saturday for induction as a Certified Senior Member of IPMA – UK and also IEC – UK. How will you describe the event and what are these associations all about?
The IPMA – UK is an International Examining Licencing and Regulatory professional body which has a primary aim of providing practicing managers with the necessary tools of improving their overall managerial ability in all areas of public administration, business and industry while the IEC- UK is also an international Professional body established for the purpose of providing consultancy skills to senior professionals in various areas of endeavours in line with global best practices.
To describe this event for me in a statement , I will say ” It’s a dream come true”.
Q: How did you feel achieving this great milestone ? Who are those worthy of mention in bringing your dream to pass?
I feel so fulfilled. I owe a lot first to God Almighty who made it possible
Then to my friend, Adebayo Ajibade who nominated me and introduced me to IPMA-UK, and then to my boss, Steve Abednigo for all his support, my colleagues in IPMA – UK and also my wife for giving me the necessary ambience and keeping the home front.
Most worthy of mention are our erudite facilitators , Prof. Nnah and Prof. Feyi Shobanjo. Prof. Shobanjo is the Head, Africa Regional Headquarters and International Council Member . It was a great privilege to be taught by this quintessential and energetic humble man. For all out there reading this; Prof. Shobanjo deserves award for all that he is doing and it shouldn’t be a post – humous one. ( Laughs).
Q: Sir, what is your advice to people in your kind of position given the knowledge you have acquired through this programme ?
I will like to encourage every Professional that desire to take his career to the next level to register for this programme. I am a better manager now. Secondly, my contact base has improved greatly, rubbing shoulders with the Calibre of people I was opportuned to come across, IPMA – UK is the place to be.
Q: How did you feel winning an award?
I give God all the glory. It’s not easy to be recognised by IPMA – UK among a special class of 58 out of 6,500 that registered for the 2019 programme. It’s a great privilege and I have been energised to do more. For me, my best is yet to come and I am set to give more to this wonderful organisation and the society at large.
