Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, has articulated a vision for leadership in Nigeria that emphasizes inclusivity, collaboration, and productivity.

Speaking on the theme of “Forward Thinking Leadership” during Nigeria’s 61st Independence celebration, Ogunbiyi highlighted the necessity for leaders who engage all sectors of society to drive national growth.

“Achieving a spiral of value creation in our country, Nigeria, therefore requires an engagement of the whole system and the total demolition of boundaries,” Ogunbiyi stated. He stressed that both the government and citizens must collaborate in streamlined, productive, and value-delivering chains to attain the desired growth trajectory.

Ogunbiyi criticized self-centered and myopic competition, noting that such attitudes destroy capacity and hinder its utilization. He advocated for value-creating, win-win partnerships as essential for leveraging the potential of the entire citizenry.

Addressing the youth, Ogunbiyi urged them to actively participate in leadership roles. He emphasized that with youths constituting about half of Nigeria’s population, their involvement is crucial for the nation’s future. “Leadership in this country is for the youths, and if the youths should step up their game and give all the necessary support, I think the future is bright for Nigeria,” he remarked.

Ogunbiyi’s leadership philosophy is reflected in Mutual Benefits Assurance’s operations. In 2024, the company disbursed claims totaling N34.54 billion, demonstrating its commitment to financial security and customer satisfaction despite economic challenges.

Furthermore, Ogunbiyi has been recognised for his contributions to the economy and national productivity. He received the ‘National Productivity’ recognition from the Guild of Photojournalists Nigeria, highlighting his impact as a businessman and promoter of a productive, business-friendly Nigeria.

Through his advocacy and corporate leadership, Dr. Ogunbiyi exemplifies the kind of inclusive and collaborative leadership he envisions for Nigeria’s advancement.
