The Bishop, Diocese of Lagos Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye has congratulated Nigerians on the nation’s 59th Independence anniversary saying Nigeria has been making slow but steady progress since 1960.
The clergy who made this known during a ‘prayer walk’ from Eleko Beach junction to the Centenary City, behind the permanent site of Pan-Atlantic University, Ibeju-Lekki, in Lagos by the members of the Diocese of Lagos and other Christian faithfuls said: I want to believe that we are making progress even though the progress is not appreciated and it is not enough. But I want to believe that we are not where we were 59 years ago.
” The country is moving forward and our only prayer is that our leaders should get it right and have the fear of God .They should also know that we are not going to take anything away from this world. So they should not be attracted to the things of the world.
” My message to Nigerians at Independence is for them to remain faithful and hold on tremendously to God even in the midst of problems . We have to keep our hope alive, that it will be well and that tomorrow will be better. The light is coming at the end of the tunnel”.
On the ‘prayer walk’, Olumakaiye thanked the participants who defied the early downpour on Independence Day saying God will continue to uphold them .
“We bless God for today, we went on prayer walk to the Centenary City which is the permanent site for our Convention Ground and Convention Centre. The significance of this walk is for us to take possession of the land spiritually and also to pray about the centenary. It is also a way of showing that we are giving back to the community and humanity what they have been contributing to the church. We believe that it is high time to give back for the developments of our society most especially, we believe the government cannot do it alone, we need to collaborate with the government in providing necessary things.
“On Centenary City, today our plan is to have the Convention Ground and Convention Centre as Human Empowerment Centre and also to have income through a Housing Estate there. We are also planning to have a new global and international hospital at the Centenary City. We are believing in God that it would be a place for everybody, where people can come in and pray, that is our belief.
“It is open for everybody both believers and non-believers. It’s a center where many people would have encounter with the Lord, and spiritual programme and empowerment programmes will be going on there”.
