The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has unveiled new contracting cycle guidelines aimed at enhancing efficiency, promoting local content participation, streamlining operations, and addressing critical challenges in the oil and gas industry.
The guidelines were announced during the 13th Practical Nigerian Content (PNC) Forum, themed ‘Defining the Next Frontier for Nigerian Content Implementation’.
Addressing over 750 delegates at the forum, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Felix Omatsola Ogbe, highlighted the transformative progress made in the industry over the past decade.
He noted that Nigerian content in the oil and gas sector has grown remarkably from 26 per cent in 2015 to 56 per cent in 2024, emphasising that this achievement underscores the power of collaboration and shared vision.
“This year holds a particularly special significance for me as it reflects the milestones we have achieved over the past seven years, bringing us closer to our 2027 goals,” Ogbe stated.
He explained that the forum reaffirmed its mission of driving local content growth aligned with the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act.
Ogbe also outlined the forum’s key achievements under the NOGICD Act, including efforts to build the capacity of Nigerian companies and individuals to actively participate in the oil and gas industry.
He highlighted the NCDMB’s success in advancing local content development, such as the approval of 312 Nigerian Content Plans and the issuance of 402 Nigerian Content Compliance Certificates.
Ogbe also highlighted the launch of ‘Back to the Creek’, a youth-focused initiative that equips members of host communities with industry-relevant skills to meet sector demands, thereby directly supporting the local content drive.
Ogbe further noted the significant increase in Nigerian content levels, which rose from 26 per cent in 2016 to 54 per cent by the end of 2022 and 2023.
The Portfolio Director for Africa and Country Director for Nigeria at dmg Nigeria Events, Wemimo Oyelana, emphasised the forum’s objective to showcase government and private sector strategies for deepening local content implementation across the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
Oyelana stated that the PNC Forum provides a unique platform for stakeholders to reflect on progress, share best practices, and explore emerging opportunities.
She added that the primary goal is to boost investments and activities within the energy sector, paving the way for Nigerian companies to evolve into multinational enterprises.
Oyelana reaffirmed the commitment of the NCDMB and its partners to strengthening Nigerian content, ensuring the nation remains on track to achieve its 2027 goals for an inclusive and thriving energy industry.
