The Nigeria Police Force has shifted the commencement date for the enforcement of the new tinted glass permit regulations to October 2, 2025, giving motorists additional time to comply with the directive.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced the extension in a statement on Tuesday, saying the decision followed appeals from the public and the need to allow for adequate processing of permit applications across the country.

According to Adejobi, the enforcement exercise, which was earlier scheduled to begin in August, will involve thorough checks to ensure that only vehicles with validly issued and verifiable permits operate on Nigerian roads.

He stressed that the extension period should not be seen as a relaxation of the policy but as a grace window for vehicle owners to regularise their status.

“The police remain committed to public safety and crime prevention, and the regulation of tinted glass usage is a key part of this. We are using this extension to ensure a smooth and transparent permit issuance process while sensitising the public on the requirements,” Adejobi said.

The Police had earlier warned that indiscriminate use of tinted glass without proper authorisation poses security risks, as it can be exploited by criminals to evade detection.

Motorists seeking permits have been urged to apply through the official channels and avoid fraudulent intermediaries. The police also reiterated that enforcement after the new deadline would be strict, with defaulters facing prosecution.
