The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced that it will resume the enforcement of regulations on the use of tinted glass on vehicles nationwide from January 2, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, the decision follows growing security concerns and the increasing abuse of tinted vehicles for criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes.
The police explained that the enforcement exercise would be guided strictly by existing laws, which require motorists using factory-fitted or aftermarket tinted glass to obtain a valid tinted glass permit from the police authorities. Vehicle owners without the required permit, the statement warned, risk sanctions in line with the law.
The NPF noted that the resumption of enforcement is also aimed at enhancing public safety and improving the ability of security agencies to effectively identify vehicles and occupants during routine patrols and security operations.
Motorists have been advised to ensure compliance ahead of the January deadline by applying for or renewing their tinted glass permits through the approved police channels. The police further assured the public that adequate sensitisation would be carried out nationwide to prevent harassment and ensure a smooth enforcement process.
The Force reiterated its commitment to professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights, urging members of the public to cooperate with officers in the interest of national security.
