The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a rear coach collision on the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor, leaving several passengers injured and raising fresh concerns over safety on one of the country’s busiest train routes.

The incident, which occurred along the Abuja–Kaduna railway, involved a collision affecting the rear coaches of a moving train, according to the corporation.

NRC said preliminary findings indicate that the impact led to varying degrees of injuries among passengers onboard, although no fatalities were immediately reported at the time of filing this report.

Spokesperson for the corporation, who confirmed the development, said emergency response teams were promptly deployed to the scene to evacuate injured passengers and provide immediate medical assistance.

The injured were subsequently taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment, while efforts were made to ensure the safe continuation or termination of the journey for other passengers.

The corporation assured the public that the situation had been brought under control, adding that a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the collision.

According to NRC, safety remains a top priority, and measures are being taken to prevent a recurrence of such incidents on the rail corridor.

The Abuja–Kaduna rail line, which connects the Federal Capital Territory to Kaduna, has become a critical transport link for commuters, especially in light of security challenges affecting road travel along the route.

Industry observers say the latest incident may heighten public concern about rail safety and operational efficiency, particularly as passenger traffic on the corridor continues to rise.

The NRC reiterated its commitment to maintaining safe rail operations and urged passengers to remain calm while investigations are ongoing.

Further updates are expected as the corporation concludes its assessment of the incident and releases more details on the number of affected passengers and the extent of damages.
