An underwriting firm, AIICO Insurance Plc, has strengthened relationships with operating communities through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) across the country.
The insurer said one of the key areas of focus in its CSR is the health and well-being of the people where it operates.
The firm’s Head of Strategic Marketing and Communications, Segun Olalandu, in a statement, said consumers are increasingly aware of the importance of corporate responsibilities and are demanding more from corporate entities, adding: “It is now one of the metrics for choosing, rating and staying loyal to brands.
Olalandu also said the underwriter has established relationships with partner agencies, government establishments, and non-profit organisations through which it touches many lives more meaningfully.
On yearly basis, he said, the insurer commemorates World Blood Donor Day with an internal blood donation drive in partnership with the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service, adding that AIICO’s employees troop out voluntarily to donate blood. The intervention, according to him, is in response to the enormous supply gap and the continuous rise in the demand for blood in local health institutions.
AIICO, he pointed out, is also helping to fight to end infant homicide (infanticide), a barbaric practice still practised in local communities.
“The insurer donates N100 from every sale of its travel and automobile insurance products to this cause yearly. It partners with ActionAid Nigeria and Vine Heritage Home, who are at the forefront of the campaign to rescue these children.
“They shelter them and provide them with access to quality education. They also ensure they reintegrate them into society without harm,” he said.
