The British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA) has made a historic visit to Nigeria, signalling a renewed wave of international collaboration and strategic partnerships within the insurance sector.

The Chief Executive Officer of the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA), Graeme Trudgill, has made a historic visit to Nigeria, signalling a renewed wave of international collaboration and strategic partnerships within the insurance sector.

Mr. Trudgill’s visit, which included engagements with leading industry bodies such as the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), and insurance icon Olola Olabode Ogunlana, is seen as a significant move to deepen bilateral cooperation between the UK and Nigerian insurance markets.

A key highlight of the visit was the meeting with Olola Ogunlana, Chairman of Scib Nigeria & Co. Ltd, who recently became the first-ever recipient of BIBA’s International Lifetime Achievement Award. Presented at the 2024 BIBA Conference in Manchester, the award recognised Ogunlana’s extraordinary contributions to the global insurance landscape over a career spanning more than seven decades.

Trudgill also paid a courtesy call to the Deputy British High Commission in Lagos, further reinforcing the visit’s diplomatic and economic significance.

Industry stakeholders view the visit as a catalyst for advancing technical partnerships, capacity building, and market development, particularly in areas such as regulation, technology adoption, and professional education.

By fostering dialogue and shared expertise, the engagement is expected to open up new opportunities for growth and innovation within both insurance industries.

The visit marks a turning point in the relationship between UK and Nigerian insurance stakeholders, underscoring a joint commitment to raising standards, building trust, and expanding market reach across both regions.
