Corporate Affairs Managers Committee of Nigerian Insurers Association (CAMCONIA), a unit formed to coordinate communications in the insurance industry, has elected the Deputy General Manager, Corporate Communications & Investor Relations, Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, Segun Bankole, as its Chairman.

Bankole emerged as Chairman in a meeting held recently by head of corporate affairs units of insurance companies in the country.

The Chief Marketing Officer, Heirs Insurance Group, Ifesinachi Okpagu, was elected as Deputy Chairman, while Senior Marketing Services Coordinator, Sanlam Nigeria Limited, Bankole Banjo is the General Secretary.

According to industry observers, their emergence is expected to help reposition and enhance insurance education and awareness as they are considered fit and proper for the job.

The observers implored the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) and management of insurance companies to lend the necessary support to the new leadership of CAMCONIA, adding that corporate communications managers should be allowed to focus on their duties as against turning them to marketers, a development which is responsible for poor visibility of most firms.

Currently, Segun Bankole is Deputy GM & Head-Corporate Communications at Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc.

Bankole is also Member of Global Development Network, Member of Nigerian Institute of Management and Associate Member at The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria.

Segun Bankole received an MBA from the University of Calabar and an undergraduate degree from Obafemi Awolowo University.
