The Lagos State Government has announced the diversion of traffic from the Maryland/Mende Underpass with effect from tomorrow, Tuesday, September 20, 2022.

In a paper made available to this medium, the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, disclosed that the diversion would enable the continuation of construction work on the Opebi/Ojota link bridge.

Dr Frederic Oladeinde assured us that alternative routes have been mapped out to ease movement during the course of the reconstruction of the underpass.

He advised motorists to use the Ojota Interchange to connect Maryland and its environs.

The commissioner urged motorists heading to the inner streets of the axis to make use of Mobolaji Bank Anthony to access Emmanuel, Aderibigbe Shitta and Adeoye Adeyemi Streets, while those heading towards Mende and its environs can use of Mende Street to link Ajose Street and connect Oki lane to continue their journey.

In a similar development, the Transport Commissioner disclosed that the repairs of a section of the

Lagos-bound lane at the Iyana Era/Badagry Expressway scheduled for September 17,  has been postponed till further notice due to unforeseen circumstances, adding that the new date will be communicated to the public.

While commending motorists for their patience and cooperation, Oladeinde stated that personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be deployed to the affected routes to minimize inconveniences.

He sought the concurrence of Lagosians at this season of road construction as the gains of the ongoing projects will ameliorate the traffic challenges in the State.

In another development, Abdulhafiz Gbolahan Toriola, an engineer, who was recently appointed the new Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation (M.O.T), has assumed duties.

Toriola, a former Director of Transport Operations in the ministry was on Thursday, September 18, 2022, along with eight others appointed Permanent Secretary by the Gov.  Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

With his new appointment, he takes over from Mr Kamar Olowoshago who has been redeployed as the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Housing.

Addressing the management and staff of the Ministry, the new Permanent Secretary thanked the outgoing Permanent Secretary for his commitment and dedication towards the smooth running of the Ministry assuring of building on the legacy of the improved working environment for staff toward achieving the mandate of the Ministry.

While soliciting the support of the management and staff, he added that the support is crucial to achieving set goals and targets.

‘I have fully resumed work to avoid unnecessary delay in the business of governance, we have to hit the ground running he said.

Earlier, the outgoing Permanent Secretary, Kamar Olowoshago, while handing over to his successor, stated that traffic management and transportation are in the front burner of the administration of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, urging the management and staff to give the incoming Permanent Secretary maximum support and cooperation to move the ministry forward.

Olowoshago also extended appreciation to Gov. Sanwo-Olu for his support during his tenure in the ministry.
