The Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) has reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring that every retiring public servant exits service with dignity, pride, and financial security.

Speaking at the 29th Retirement Documentation Seminar at the weekend, the Director-General, LASPEC, said the seminal was designed to equip offers due for retirement between January and June 2026 with practical knowledge and emotional readiness for life after service.

The programme, attended by the senior government officials, representatives of Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), annuity service providers and prospective retirees, forms part of LASPEC continuous efforts to prepare employees for a seamless transition from active service into retirement.

According to the DG, the documentation seminar underscores the current administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers both in service and retirement.

“Retirement is one of the most defining milestones in the life of every public servant. It marks the end of decades of loyal service and the beginning of a new chapter one that allows you to enjoy the fruits of your labour and pursue personal fulfiment,” the DG said.

She explained that the state government, under the leadership of Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has continued to prioritise the prompt payment of pension entitlements and the introduction of policies aimed at safeguarding the welfare of retirees.

The DG noted that the seminal would expose participants to vital topics including pension documentation, financial planning, healthcare management, legal issues, and emotional preparedness for retirement.

She urged participants to take advantage of the opportunity to clarify issues and ensure all documentation requirements are met before disengagement.

“This programme is designed to make your transaction seamless. Or facilitators and industry experts are here to provide clarity and equip you with the tools needed to step into retirement with confidence” she added.

Emphasising that retirement should be seen as a season of renewal rather than withdrawal, the LASPEC boss encouraged the prospective retirees to plan wisely and explore opportunities in entrepreneurship, consultancy, community service, or mentorship.

Similarly, the Executive Director, Finance and Investment at the commission, described the seminar as a bridge between active service and financial independence.

“Retirement planning should start early. What we are doing today is to ensure that prospective retirees are not only financially ready but also mentally and emotionally prepared for new phase,” she explained.

Industry stakeholders also lauded Lagos State for its proactive pension administration model. A representative of a leading Pension Fund Administrator, who spoke during one of technical sessions, said Lagos remains a model for other state in Nigeria.
