The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has expressed deep sympathy to victims of the fire outbreaks that gutted Afriland Towers and Emab Plaza in Lagos on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, pledging full support to those affected.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Kunle Ahmed, the umbrella body for insurance and reinsurance companies in Nigeria mourned the loss of lives and property, describing the incidents as tragic and painful. The association assured that all valid insurance claims arising from the incidents would be honoured by member companies.
“The NIA stands in solidarity with families, businesses, and individuals who have suffered losses in the aftermath of this unfortunate event. We wish to assure all affected parties that our member companies who provided insurance cover for the affected properties will duly compensate claims under valid policies,” the statement read.
The association reaffirmed the industry’s commitment to providing protection and financial recovery in times of crisis, while also urging Nigerians and business owners to take insurance more seriously as a key tool for risk management.
“The importance of being insured cannot be overstated, especially in a world where unforeseen events can have far-reaching consequences,” Ahmed added, stressing the need for a stronger insurance culture across the country.
