Nigeria records 663 million metric tonnes in ECOWAS exports for H1 2025 — NEPC

Nigeria exported 663 million metric tonnes of goods to member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in the first half of 2025, according to data from the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC).

The council said the figures highlight sustained trade activity within the sub-region despite macroeconomic headwinds, foreign exchange volatility, and logistical challenges that have affected cross-border commerce in recent years.

Acting Executive Director/CEO of NEPC, Dr. Ezra Yakusak, noted that the exports comprised agricultural produce, manufactured goods, solid minerals, and processed foods, with Ghana, Senegal, and Côte d’Ivoire emerging as top destinations. He added that the performance reflects the resilience of Nigerian exporters and the growing integration of value chains under ECOWAS protocols.

Yakusak said the agency will continue to work with exporters to address non-tariff barriers, improve product standards, and leverage the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to deepen Nigeria’s market share in West Africa and beyond.

Trade analysts say the H1 2025 numbers position Nigeria to exceed its 2024 ECOWAS export performance, especially if infrastructure bottlenecks, port delays, and regional trade disputes are further eased in the second half of the year.
