The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary traffic diversion on Osborne Road, Ikoyi, between Thursday, August 15, and Saturday, August 17, to enable the completion of critical drainage maintenance in the area.

According to a statement by the state Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the diversion is necessary to address flooding concerns and improve water flow along Osborne Road, which serves as a major access route for motorists in Ikoyi and its environs.

Osiyemi explained that the planned works will involve the cleaning and de-silting of drains, as well as the installation of additional drainage covers to ensure free flow of stormwater during the rainy season. He noted that the intervention is part of ongoing efforts by the Sanwo-Olu administration to reduce perennial flooding in key areas of Lagos.

“To minimize inconvenience, we have put alternative routes in place for road users. Motorists heading towards Osborne Road from Ikoyi will be diverted to Alexander Road and then to Gerrard Road, while those coming from the Third Mainland Bridge will be redirected through Bourdillon Road,” the commissioner said.

He advised motorists to obey traffic officers and road signs that will be mounted to guide movements during the period. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has been deployed to manage traffic and ensure smooth flow throughout the diversion.

“We appeal to residents and road users to cooperate with the state government as we complete this critical maintenance work. The short-term inconvenience will lead to long-term benefits for all,” Osiyemi added.

The government reiterated its commitment to continuous infrastructure upgrade and flood prevention projects across the state, assuring that more drainage rehabilitation works are scheduled in other flood-prone areas in the coming months.
