The emergence of Hon. Taiwo Ayedun, popularly known as Shanana, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the House of Representatives, Oshodi Constituency I, has continued to generate excitement and renewed confidence among party faithful and residents across the constituency.
For many supporters, Shanana’s candidacy represents more than a political contest; it symbolizes a growing desire for leadership built on service, humility, inclusion, and genuine commitment to the people.
Politics, they argue, should not merely revolve around power, influence, or personal wealth. True leadership is defined by the ability to uplift communities, inspire hope, and create opportunities for ordinary citizens. While some politicians see public office as a pathway to personal enrichment, great leaders invest in humanity and dedicate themselves to improving lives.
This philosophy is widely associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose political legacy in Lagos and beyond has been shaped by grassroots mobilisation, mentorship, and people-centred governance. Supporters of Shanana believe he embodies similar ideals of progressive leadership, which is why many within the APC fold proudly describe him as “Emi Lokan 2.”
Shanana’s appeal largely stems from his reputation as a politician who remains accessible to the grassroots. Long before gaining political prominence in Oshodi, he was known for his supportive disposition and close relationship with people around him.
During his time as an Executive Officer in the Economics Department of Lagos State University, he reportedly earned admiration from students and colleagues for his willingness to assist others and his approachable nature. Associates say that same spirit of service has continued to define his political journey and interactions within Oshodi and across Lagos State.
Unlike politicians who thrive on conflict and division, Shanana is regarded by supporters as a bridge-builder who values unity, consensus, and respectful engagement. He is described as a calm and liberal-minded politician who believes leadership should foster cooperation rather than rivalry.
His supporters also insist that he does not subscribe to transactional politics, where influence is tied to personal benefits. Instead, they say he believes governance must accommodate everyone, regardless of social status, political affiliation, or background.
This growing support has strengthened the popularity of the slogan, “Oshodi on the March, Shanana for Rep,” which has rapidly become a rallying cry among APC loyalists and grassroots supporters within the constituency.
To many residents, the slogan captures a collective aspiration for effective representation, responsive governance, and sustainable community development. It reflects the belief that Oshodi deserves a representative who understands the realities of the people and is prepared to defend their interests with dignity and sincerity at the National Assembly.
Party stakeholders have also commended APC leaders in Oshodi for sustaining unity and strengthening the party’s grassroots structure over the years. Their commitment, supporters believe, has further solidified public trust in the APC and positioned the party strongly ahead of future electoral contests.
As political activities gather momentum, party members are being encouraged to intensify mobilisation efforts, reconnect with the grassroots, and promote the achievements and vision of the APC across the constituency.
For supporters of Shanana, the mission is straightforward — to send to Abuja a representative who embodies loyalty, competence, accessibility, and genuine commitment to public service.
With increasing momentum surrounding his candidacy, many observers believe Oshodi Constituency I may be witnessing the rise of a new political movement driven by progressive ideals, grassroots engagement, and inclusive leadership.
Indeed, across the constituency, one message continues to resonate strongly: Oshodi is on the march.
