The Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative (PLSI) has urged the federal government to implement a new remuneration scheme for federal auditors to enhance their commitment to work.
The Presidential Committee on Salaries on June 27, 2022, approved the review of remuneration for the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation among 14 others.
PLSI in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Olusegun Elemo, commended the federal government for the approval and urged them to accelerate the implementation of the reviewed salary structure to enhance the purchasing power of federal auditors, increase their commitment to work and help them to guide against inducement.
The group, however, noted that the gains from the current review of salaries of federal auditors will be better consolidated if the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation is empowered to effectively deliver on its mandate through the enactment of modern audit law.
They stressed that the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation is the foremost accountability institution in the country, which means necessary support must accord to it to enable it to function effectively.
“The absence of an audit legal framework has impacted negatively on the Nigerian economy and is responsible for revenue leakages, expenditure inefficiency, lack of transparency and accountability in the use of public resources within ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs),” the statement said.
