The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has cautioned Nigerians against a fraudulent website circulating online, disowning claims that it has introduced a new vehicle tax.

In a statement, the agency said the platform is fake and designed to mislead unsuspecting members of the public into making unauthorised payments, urging citizens to disregard any information not issued through its official channels.

The NRS clarified that it has not introduced any new tax on vehicle ownership or usage, stressing that all legitimate tax policies are communicated through established government platforms and verified announcements.

“The attention of the Nigeria Revenue Service has been drawn to a fake website promoting a non-existent vehicle tax. This is false and should be ignored,” the agency said.

It warned that engaging with such fraudulent platforms could expose users to financial loss and identity theft, advising taxpayers to verify information before making any payments.

The agency also urged the public to report suspicious links and activities to relevant authorities, adding that efforts are ongoing to track and shut down the perpetrators behind the scheme.

The development comes amid rising incidents of cyber fraud targeting taxpayers, as criminals exploit digital platforms to impersonate government agencies and extort money.

The NRS reiterated its commitment to protecting taxpayers and maintaining transparency in tax administration, noting that any future policy changes would be widely publicised through credible and official channels.
