A House of Representatives aspirant for Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, Hon. Olumide Omosuyi, has congratulated leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over their victory at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, describing the ruling as a boost for democracy and the rule of law.

In a statement issued yesterday, Hon. Omosuyi commended the party’s leadership, led by David Mark, as well as stakeholders in Ondo State, noting that the judgment has reaffirmed the independence of the judiciary and strengthened democratic institutions.

“The judgment is a reflection of the independence of the judiciary and a boost to democratic practice in Nigeria,” he said.

The aspirant, however, criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of attempting to stifle opposition voices, warning that such actions could undermine the nation’s democratic space.

He alleged that the APC’s actions were driven by fear of a resurgent opposition, stressing that efforts to suppress dissent would be counterproductive to national development.

Hon. Omosuyi urged political actors to embrace tolerance, fairness and respect for divergent views, adding that a vibrant opposition remains critical to good governance.

He also called on ADC members in Ondo State to remain united and committed to strengthening the party ahead of future political contests.

Meanwhile, the apex court had directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore the ADC to the ballot for the 2027 general elections, following the resolution of its leadership dispute.

The court’s decision affirmed Mark’s leadership of the party and overturned earlier actions that led to its delisting amid internal wrangling.

The ruling clears the ADC to participate fully in the 2027 polls and is expected to reshape opposition dynamics, with key political figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, seen as potential contenders on the party’s platform.
