A three-storey building under construction, yesterday, collapsed under the torrential rainfall at 4 Alayaki Lane, Freeman Road, Lagos Island. Two persons were rescued alive while another two were confirmed dead.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the building was already in violation of building safety protocols.
It said it was discovered that the building had been captured by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) district office and served with all statutory notices, sealed at the district and central enforcement level.
It added that further investigation determined that the developer had continued clandestine operations mostly at night and at the weekends.
At the time of this report, an unconfirmed number of people were still trapped in the collapsed building.
